The Bay Area has been a breeding ground for some of the most accomplished point guards to ever touch the hardwood. Hall of Famers Jason Kidd and Gary Payton call it home, and current day superstar Damian Lillard is carrying the torch. We now take a look at who might be next up in the ranks.

James Akinjo (Baylor)

The Oakland product is one of the most accomplished college players in the nation. James won Big East Freshman of the Year while at Georgetown, then transferred to Arizona and won 1st-Team all Pac-12. The now Baylor Bear is helping lead the number 2 ranked team in the nation back to another national title. Akinjo is averaging a solid 10.6 ppg while adding in 6 apg. Look for Jame’s draft stock to skyrocket this year.

 

 

Darrion Trammel (Seattle U)

Darrion took the unconventional road to division 1 basketball as he spent some time at the post-grad and junior college level. Seattle U however didn’t overlook this Marin City product, as he is now putting the nation on notice. Darrion has been one of the highest scoring players in the nation the past two seasons averaging 18.5 ppg. With two years left of eligibility look for Darrion to keep applying pressure to his critics.

Zyon Pullin (UC Riverside)

The sophomore guard is averaging a career high in points, rebounds, and assists. Zyon is averaging 12.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg and 4.7 apg, showing why he is an all-around guard. He is looking to lead his Riverside team to a Big West title this season.

Ezra Manjon (UC Davis)

Another Bay Area product playing in the Big West, this dynamic point guard will get you out of your seats with his highly exciting style of scoring. Ezra is looking to continue his previous season's scoring averages while also increasing his defensive production.

 

 

Bryce Monroe ( San Diego )

The sophomore guard out of San Francisco is in his first year with the San Diego Toreros as he transferred in from Sam Houston State. During his freshman year with Sam Houston he won the Southland freshman of the year and was a finalist for one of the best in the nation. Now in a tougher conference, Bryce is showing his ability to lead a team as a floor general while also adding scoring when he needs to.

Chance Mcmillan (GCU)

The Vallejo native has been the backup point guard on one of the best up and coming mid- majors in the nation. GCU plays a lot of players so everyone gets their fair share of minutes, however Mcmillan has taken advantage of his time with his sweet shooting and also an improved ability of playmaking. Look for Chance to make another appearance in March Madness. 

Souley Boum (UTEP)

Souley transferred in from USF and has seen a sharp increase in scoring. The Oakland native is averaging an impressive 20.5 ppg, a 10 point increase from his freshman year at USF. More of a combo guard, Souley’s just surpassed 1000 career points. 

Jamaree Bouyea (USF) 

Seaside's finest Bouyea put everyone on notice last season earning 1st-Team All-WCC and has not stopped averaging 18pts, 5rebs, 4ast per game so far in the season. With a season high 30pts vs UNLV and leading the Dons to a 11-1 start. 

 
Logan Johnson (St. Mary's) 
Johnson has started all 15 games so far this season , was named 2nd-Team All-WCC as a junior. He was named Pre-Season 1st-Team All-WCC and has not looked anything short of it so far in the season. Johnson scored a season high 28pts vs Yale to end 2021 and averaging 11pts 4rebs and 3ast per game in his senior season. 

Elijah Hardy ( Cal-State Northridge) 
Hardy has started the last 3 games for CSUN and played in all 10 games. Currently, averaging 9pts and 4ast per game. The Oakland PG started his career at Washington, Portland State, and now Northridge looks to finish his college career strong in Southern California. 

Jade Smith (Pepperdine) 

The RS senior started all games and averaging 30 minutes 10pts 5rebs per game for the Waves. Jade will provide the senior leadership to the 2 bay area freshman guards on the team Mike Mitchell and Houston Mallette (played for Salesian before moving to Socal). 

Mike Mitchell (Pepperdine) 

Recently earned WCC Freshman of the week started all 13 games for the waves. The true freshman is averaging 9pts 5ast and 3rebs per game. 

Robby Beasley (Montana) 

Has started all 15 games so far in his sophomore season with a game high 19pts vs Weber St. Currently averaging 11pts 3rebs and 2ast per game. 

Jovon McClanahan (Hawaii)
