The 2nd session of the Adidas Gauntlet is complete and the spring live period has come to a close. I had the pleasure of following and covering the 16u and 15u elite team that participates in the Gold Gauntlet. Both teams came out 2-2 and learned a lot about themselves.

Take a look at our behind the scenes episode above to see what it is like playing against the top competition.

Players that stood out this session were…

15u Elite

Dimitrios Stragalinos – Hillcrest Prep 2021 –  Proved that he can score at any time and any level, he prefers to finish with his off-hand at the basket which is rare for players his age. Dimitrios will be a very special prospect by his senior year as he is playing the highest level of competition all year round from Adidas Gold Gauntlet to the Grind Session on the prep circuit.

Demarshay Johnson – Salesian Prep 2021 –  Shay is 6’7 and runs like a deer, he can grab the rebound and still beat everyone down the floor. Shay is best when he is facing the basket and attacking, expect Shay to have a big summer and make noise on the varsity for Salesian next season.  Expect Shay’s name to be on a national level by his senior year.

Austin Johnson – 2022 – Only an 8th grader held his own in the 2nd session, Austin shot the ball very well and made key plays down the stretch.

Brendan Rutherford – Jesuit 2021 –  Brendan has the confidence that all players need on the court, he is a natural leader and has a high IQ. Has a good midrange game coming off the pick and roll.

16u Elite

Jhaylon Martinez – Vanden HS 2020 – Jhaylon is having a BIG spring picking up his first 2 offers and just came off of an unofficial visit at Stanford. Martinez is 6’10 with great footwork in the paint with a nice 15-foot jump shot.

Jaden Saunder – Dublin HS 2020 – The smallest kid on the court with the biggest heart. He is a pest on the defense and slippery when handling the rock. Jaden stepped up big vs the Upward Stars by knocking down 6 threes.

Fresh Ison – Moreau Catholic 2020 – A star football player for Moreau Catholic, Fresh was a bulldog on the court getting into the paint at will and making the right read. He has a nose for the ball and does whatever it takes to win.

Anthony Roy – Dublin HS 2020 – A streaky shooter that scores in bunches, he was able to get to get to the free throw line often but was unable to convert at a high rate. Anthony opened many eyes in the spring as he did not play varsity for Dublin last season.
